Do they have any advantage over fancy mice and rats, as far as illnesses and lifespan, or would it be reasonably logical to buy two live feed mice as pets, instead of fancy mice?

My cousin wants two pet mice, and I'm trying to help him and his Mother gather information. (We all know that she'll end up taking care of them, anyway.) I am unable to find much about price range for feed mice (or fancy mice) online (Outside of independent retailers and independent breeders. I'm thinking more petco/petsmart, as to where the mice will be purchased.), and can't find anywhere locally to check prices, so that information is vital.

Feeder mice run about $2 a piece. But!!! I would not recommend them as pets. I have a snake and we got her a mouse awhile back, she wouldn't eat it so my husband put her on my computer desk in a hampster cage. She became my pinky and I loved that little mouse. She was well taken care of - but died in little over 2 months. Afterwords I asked the people at the pet shop about it, and they said that feeder mice have much smaller life spans because they are not breed to be pets, only to be eaten - so they allow inbreeding and such which severely lowers life span.

Fancy Mice - about $4-5 in Petsmart. Sometimes you may pay up to $10 but that's still not bad and they are not (supposedly)inbred and they have much longer life spans (though no mouse lives forever).

Pinky (my feeder mouse pet) was very well behaved and loved to be petted and to run around in a hampster ball. They are very easy to get attached to - so for that reason alone I would recommend the fancy mice because of the longer life span.

They're relatively cheap. And yes, they'd make excellent pets. No different to "fancy" mice. Maybe just not as pretty as far as markings go though.

Can I recommend that your friend gets a rat instead? I had pet rats as a teenager, and they're just the best. They're intelligent and affectionate, and not as likely to get lost as mice are.

at my petstore, which is a privatly owned facility. we breed our own mice, not buy them from companies who probably treat them like dirt before they get to the store. we sell them for 1.39 and if you raise them from babies they are amazing little guys. just make sure you get two of the same sex or babies will happen times 20000%
Feeder mice are inexpensive, I have seen them for $1 USD. Fancy mice range $1 USD to $10 USD. I know several people who bought feeders at the *big box* pet store, and they have had a lot of success with them as pets. However, if you can find a fancy mouse I would suggest that as the better option.

I have a LOT of pet mice and spend a LOT of time with them. I agree with you, it was difficult to locate information about mice. I started buying all the books I could find, then happened upon a couple of *mousery* web sites, which led to more sites, etc. When I checked Yahoo!Groups, I was delighted to see several groups expressly for mice!

If your cousin is very young, always have someone supervise the activity because mice are fragile. And be prepared for some *smell* (the males are the worst). Buy at least 2 of the same sex - I recommend females as they tend to live together quite well.

I would also recommend trying to find a small animal rescue group in your area. They sometimes have mice available for adoption, and often the mice will already be hand-tamed. You can search for one by going to http://www.petfinder.com and searching for "small and furry" animals in your zipcode by using the search function on the left-hand side of the screen. Good luck!
You've gotten some great advice so far but I thought I'd add that at the Petsmart I work at we don't sell ANY feeder mice. In fact we jack up the price of most of our small animals so they won't be used as feeder animals. I believe most Petsmarts are the same way, so if you're looking for a feeder mouse you might need to look elsewhere. I'm not sure at all about Petco, so that might be a good place to start. Most people in this area look to the independently owned, smaller pet stores for feeder animals. Good luck!

I am sure there are people everywhere with them as pets, after all there are people in the US that keep cobras as pets as well as breeding them for business.

They don't keep them in baskets, but they do keep them. You can find them for sale for less than $200 !! I see it all the time.

There is a respect and knowledge of the cobra, that helps them have cooperative performances. They are NOT pets, by any means. They are wild snakes, and the risks are still high on attacks.
Cobras are common in Africa , India , S.E. %26amp; central Asia. These unfortunate snakes are wild cobras captured by these so-called snake charmers for the purpose of making money for the keeper. These keepers often sew the snake's mouth shut or cut out the gland that produces the venom leaving the snake defenseless and usually killing the snake after a short time. The keeper will sit in front of the snake and play a flute to "charm" the snake, except snakes are deaf! They usually respond to the movement of the keeper's hand or flute,not the music. All in all, it's not a very good deal for the snake and many groups and some governments are taking steps to end this practice,but it still continues.
cobras definitely live in africa. Egyptian Cobra? Arguably the one Cleopatra used to commit suicide. That or the Asp, can't no for sure. And I'm sure some people have them as pets. I would if I lived there.
In Africa people don't keep cobras as pets as a general rule. In much of Africa the cobra that is found in the wild is short and fairly fat. It is a spitting cobra and spits its venom out to small holes on the lower front part of their fangs. They aim for eyes.

If you don't have any money to take care of a pet, please find another home for this dog. It's not fair to her. You MUST do what is best for the animal. The only way you will get free services is to give her to the humane society. You can also check with the SPCA in your area. I know there is one in Houston, TX. Also, one more thing, if someone turns you into the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), you can find yourself in court with a hefty fine and/or jail time. If you volunteer to go there on your own to get treatment for your dog, you will not be fined. You can not let this go!

Might be best for the dog to have a home that can afford to take care of what could be a costly medical condition. There are obviously much more necessary health items than ear treatment. Just the money you could save from her dog food costs could improve your life quite a bit. There is probably a Golden Retriever rescue group with a waiting list for these dogs. You probably wasted money buying earmite treatment when the dog didn't have earmites. Maybe you could sacrifice other un-necessary things (cigarettes, beer, lottery tickets, bingo) to save enough to have a vet look at her. A dog is a financial responsibility that you can't ignore...it cruel to the dog. You can't blame the vets for trying to run a successful business by putting prices on what they do. Until you can get her to a vet, or find her a new home. Try a 50:50 mixture of vinegar and water twice a day.

I know that here in Canada the humane society offers treatment at lower costs for people who can't afford the regular vet bills, and sometimes if you talk to a vet and can't pay the bill all at once you can make payments. A friend of mines dog got hit by a car and she needed a steel bar put in her leg and he made monthly payments to the vet for a few months before it was paid off. Call around and see if a vet can offer you a payment plan and check the local animal shelters to see if they can help. I hope you find help soon, good luck with seeking the proper help.

Despite what many people say, there is a way to communicate with the deceased. Many people will refute this due to their religious beliefs or just because they have never experienced it themselves.

First off, let me say that your mind is more powerful than you think. By training your conscious and subconscious mind, you will be able to determine whether or not you will receive communications from spirits. We tend to be more susceptible to these communications as a child. As we grow older, society teaches us to believe that spirits don't exist, and that what we think we saw or heard was just our imagination. We unknowingly build a "wall" in our minds that blocks us from these experiences. If you are able to break down this wall, then you will have a better chance of receiving communication from the spirit world.

While you are asleep, they do visit you in your dreams. I believe this is because it is one of the very few ways they can show themselves to you without you freaking out, as if they were to manifest in front of you while you are awake.

I have had countless experiences with spirits, since I was a child. I could quite literally write a book about everything that I have gone though and seen. But I figured I would spare you the incessant rambling, and just let you know that if you really intend to communicate with the spirit world, the key is opening up your mind. Also, know that once you have made that connection, just like in the living world, there are good people and there are bad people. If you are able to train yourself, it can actually be very rewarding. I had the good fortune of seeing my father one last time and having a conversation with him after his death, which brought me closure, and witnessed my dog which was poisoned, come back and visit me for a last time.

Just work on opening your mind, and you might start to see and hear things. If you do, don't be so quick to discredit them. It might just be someone trying to get in touch with you.

I saw this lady with a dog at Mc Donalds today. Nobody said anything, but i saw lots of people make faces.

I've seen people take dogs to the bank, home depot (not that bad, but still not allowed) and places where people eat.

I know some people think its ok to take small dogs places, but i would never presume its ok, small dogs or big.

I've never seen a pet in any of those places. The only store I've ever seen someone take their dog (besides seeing eye dogs) is petsmart.

Where do you live? Wow, I'm in Vegas and that kind of behavior would NEVER fly here.

I'd complain the same way that these people with dogs do. It's not fair for them to take their animals out like that. I'm terribly allergic to cats (it's not that I don't like them I'm just ALLERGIC!) if I'm around a cat then my face swells up and a few times my throat has swollen up to the point where I had to be taken to the emergency room.

These businesses should be reminded that they're setting themselves up for a lawsuit. God forbid a person have an extreme allergic reaction to (or be bitten by) an animal in their store who has no business being there in the first place.

I have dogs, I leave them at home when I go shopping or to a restaurant. I would be very loud if I saw a dog in a restaurant though. Cause a scene. They'll ask her to leave. If they ask you to leave, tell them sure, but first you have to make a call to the health department.

Having worked food service for a very long time, this is so frustrating. Many people claim they are service animals as they are comfort animals. These are the same people that cannot provide documentation when asked. I think it's gross.
I totally agree. Unless, it is a pet store then that would be different. But, a grocery store, or any place that people are eating. Unless, they are seeing eye dogs, please keep them out of the store.

Well it is not only a societal issue but a cultural one as well. In Europe it is quite common for dogs to be taken to eating establishments. Granted, the people there take a much more leisurely approach to dining, and the dogs are very relaxed as well.

Here in the states it seems to be due to certain public figures that use dogs as an accessory that people feel they should be allowed anywhere.

But why not....if the dog is well behaved and not causing a disturbance what harm is caused by the dog being taken along instead of left behind at home.
I sooo disagree. What would you do, leave your dog in the car where it could die from heat or dehydration or take the damn thing into freaking McDonalds! Bringing a dog to an eating establishment is gross. At the very least the owner should have courtesy for the other people, she/he might know the dog's well behaved and doesn't shed but does anyone else? No.

Any where else, I don't think people should bring pets unless there isn't a rule against it. I hate hand sized dogs that people just treat as accessories and bring with them where ever they go.

There's this one pit bull in my town that I constantly see in the back of a pickup at walmart and the gym. The dog doesn't seem nice either and he's not leashed to anything.
Some people just can't seem to be separated from their pets. I agree it is wrong to take a dog into an eating establishment, the dog should have been left home, but if it is a choice between leaving a dog in a car where it can die from heat or cold, I would rather see the dog inside. There are some places where there are no pet signs, and if someone takes a dog into such a place, it should be pointed out to the manager to handle it.

She has a dog and a cat and I'm just so frustrated that she doesn't take care of her pets! Why is she allowed to own a pet she doesn't take care of, she lets the dog run loose, I almost ran it over the other day. I've been feeding the cat because it comes into my yard and drinks out of my pool... and it's soo thin and hungry and NOT neutered!

Would it be wrong of me to take the cat to my vet and get it neutered, shots, dewormed, flea dipped, etc... the works! She won't do it and there are too many feral cats in the neighborhood as it is.

We live by a park where people just dump their animals and it is so sad... I can't even count how many times dogs have walked up to us when we are in the yard... freezing cold from the rain %26amp; wind... beautiful sweet dogs but I can't keep them, so I have to call animal control and hope they get adopted.

Any advice???

I say take them to your local animal control shelter. In most places that is legal if they come onto your property, you just can't take them from her property (that would be stealing %26amp; you could get in trouble). As for the vet stuff, I would be all for it, but legally it's iffy, could be construed as "destroying property" or something. Better to leave this to people who have legal authority to do something.

And don't feel bad about them being in "the pound". Some animals are much better off there than they were before, even if they end up being put down, its better than starving to death.

Well, when that happened to me I kept the cat, who lived with me for 17 years then died. Report this neightbour to the RSPCA and see what they say. I personally would call the cops on this neighbour. HOW COULD YOU TREAT YOU PETS THAT WAY???
People like that have no business having animals to begin with. Most towns have leash laws in regards to dogs so if hers is running loose all the time I'd report it to the police. When she has to start paying fines for violating village ordinances she might get the hint. Plus the more violations she gets, the higher the fines then the animal may be removed. Best bet is to talk to your local police dept or animal control. They can advise you of the best option to take.

No, I don't find it offensive. What I do find offensive is the people who have pets and don't take care of them. Yes, some people are a bit excessive with how they spoil their pets, but at least they're not abusing them or neglecting them like some people do. I'd be more worried about that.

pros:

-birds are fun

-birds can be great companions

-you can teach some how to talk or whistle to tunes

-birds are usually pretty

-they are related to PENGUINS!

cons:

-like all pets, birds require maintainence and responsibility

-they do cost money

-birds can escape if you aren't careful

-birds can bite if they are unfamiliar with you or if they're just plain mean

-birds do tend to make a lot of noise, I hear lots of screeching from my cockatiel (during the night, if it's dark they won't make noice, they will sleep :) )

I think that the pros outweigh the cons. You just have to be careful and make sure you'll have a few bucks a month to feed it. I'd start out with either a parakeet (2 are great) or a cockatiel. They're great beginner birds. Parakeets aren't known for talking, but they can whistle tunes if practiced with enough. Cockatiels can usually always can be taught to whistle tunes easily and males can learn to talk! Mine says Latrell, his name. It's really cute. You should clip your birds wings if you think it's at risk for getting outside or flying into a window, that never ends well. Well I hope this helped! Good luck!

Smarter birds such as parrotts, love birds, cockatiels need constant amusement or they develop behavioural and mental problems. They take as much effort as about a 2 year old child except they never grow up. Very rewarding pets, but a lot of time.

i have that game and i just found that out! ok so you have to go on the computer on the game and buy bandages (under the "vets b us" section) and a neck cone (i dont know which section that is under). ok so then you take the patient with the broken limb to the grooming table, and then dress it with bandages and put the neck cone on it. Chalk board with date and time of last feeding.
A magnetic whiteboard sectioned into days with mornings and evenings and sections for different pets names... no mess and no dry markers or dusty chalk...
you know how they have thoes signs in windows that they can flip that say "open" on one side, and "closed" on the other? mabye you could make something like that! or mabye, you could set an alarm clock. with my cats, they get fed at the same time every day, and they started coming to me when it was time to be fed. i think a cats internal clock is better than ours!
Well, what I have done is put a sheet on the wall for the days of the week and you put a check mark once the animal is fed.

You can do it either mechanically, such as a card that you can flip up when you feed them and will automatically flip down after a set period, or electronically, just a display that says 'fed' when you push a button and resets itself after a time.

Most people will just us a chalkboard or dry erase board, you can write the time of the last feeding on it and then everyone else will know. You can get a 4' x 8' sheet of dry erase material at a Home Depot (NOT Office Depot) for about $15 and make thirty-two 1' x1' signs. The markers are cheap too.

My chi wears a warm jacket all late fall and winter even indoors. I recommend that all short hair dogs wear something in the colder months, especially if outside. If you keep them warm they will live longer and have more resistance to diseases.

there's a difference between dressing up a dog and putting clothes on it. if you insist on your dog wearing clothes in summer then yeah it's funny. but small breed do get cold even in 60 degree weather. i have a yorkie, they don't shed but they're the only breed with no undercoat so they do get cold fast. a jacket's fine but the whole thing with dogs sporting bling, shoes and being an accessory is ridiculous.
No it isn't crazy. My male breed with a female boxer and I got one of the puppies. She was so small she had a hard time staying warm so I bought her a jacket.

Hi no this is NOT correct as I have 12 dogs plus other animals %26amp; I use Frontline...For dogs is is every 3 months for Frontline can go 3 to 6 months for worming if the dog is a adult...Cats every 8 weeks for Frontline %26amp; about the same as a dog for the worming...

I don't know where you got your information from but they should be warned not to be worming %26amp; de fleaing every 4 weeks as this is NOT good for their animals...they should consult a vet before handing out that sort of info that could harm a pet...

If you purchased the wormer from a reptuble and local vet you only have to worm your dog every 3~6 months. Another way to keep your dog flea free is to shampoo with an added flea killer this also allows for a bonding session that is very cheap but very worthwhile and ive found personally rewarding. Also if you have a dog you should try to keep it out of long grass and heath as this is one of the main habitats for fleas and ticks (which are nasty little creatures that suck blood!!!)

It depends on the product you use.

Frontline is dropped on the back of the neck once a month during the summer when fleas and ticks are most active. You can do it less often in winter as long as you keep your home flea free, hoover regularly and comb the dog.

As for worm treatment, there are two types of worm; roundworm and tapeworm. Tapeworm are transmitted via flea bites as well as from infected animals, and tapeworm treatment needs to be done regularly.

Roundworm treatment is often given seperately.

Just see your vet and ask what they recommend; or check the packet you use.
I use spot on it has 3 applications so it lasts 3 months and only costs 鎷? overall for everything they cost they are still cheaper than children.

Use 'STRONGHOLD', only available from the vet, sorts out flea and worm problems in one go. I use it in April, July and October depending on the weather / temperature. Not cheap but well worth the 鎷㈡嫝鎷㈡嫝鎷㈡嫝s. Thru' winter I use 'Nuvan' to spray carpets, pet bedding etc and find that this keeps on top of the situation. Hope this advise helps.

The first thing you'll need to do is talk to your mom. Ask her why. Remind her that animals aren't like old socks that can be thrown away. If she doesn't listen you could always talk to the pound to help them to get her to stop. They might have some suggestions even if they can't stop her themselves. Over here there's a fee you have to pay, an appointment and a two week waiting period before you can turn in pets. They try to get people to keep their animals and stop random dumping just because a pet is inconvenient.

Sometimes the act of dragging every animal to the pound is a control issue. Not your fault. Your mom might need to control something due to something in her life and the pets are what get caught in the middle. I had a landlord who was a bit of a control nut and I was forced to give away several perfectly loved critters. It's not fun, but sitting down and talking to your mom about the pets might help answer some questions.

Yes, the Sims 2: Pets is just an expansion pack, just like Open for Business, Night Life and University. You still need the original CD or DVD to play it. In my humble half-****** opinion, it is worth the money.

Stores like Best Buy and Target or Wal-Mart should have it. It's in the PC game secton. If you can't find it, ask the people who work there. They should be able to help you get one. Sims 2 is really good, by the way :)

Seriously, it's not freaking funny :[.

Not only that, but it isn't even original. I've seen about 10 different people suggesting that mouse/rat/hamster owners feed their pets to a snake. It's getting incredibly annoying.

You can try to get an offending answer removed by reporting it. I don't know if Y answers keeps a running count of how many times the same posters keep doing it, but in the pet section I see the same jerks again and again. I don't mind differing opinions but I hate the people that are just trying to get a rise out of the others.

I also kept mice and rats and I think they make good pets, too. I kept snakes as well- I think everything is here for a purpose, and everything's gotta eat, but there's no reason to deliberately hurt someone's feelings because they care for an animal that you yourself dislike. (I don't particularly like spiders, but I don't suggest to tarantula enthusiasts that they step on them, either)

You can report just about any answer.
I think it's because people don't really care. Personally I hate those type of answers. What you can do is next to the name is a flag: it will say "repot abuse", click on it and then give the reason why. It's really quite easy.

The people who answer the questions like that either just like to see their own writting ( Kind of like the sound of thier own voice), or they probably think that they are beeing funny.

The other option I can think of is that they are just trying to get points, so they answer a question about something they know absolutely nothing about.

It is absolutely a reportable offecence since they are not actually contributing to the community at all. I usually report them then give them a thumbs down.

Hi. Nive question. I have several cats, a raven and a large black dog. We are very happy and I suspect you would be too. You are a kind person, but very independent. You do not make friends easily and you can have a stubborn streak. But you are also very intelligent, far more than most people realize, and your have a romantic side that really is wonderful and warm. I know these things because of who I am so trust me. Animals can tell you a lot!
I love kids, but I don't think I could ever raise one on my own. I'm too selfish. But I love my cat and I can't imagine not having one.

Cats are a good answer. One tends to be lonely. Two are good. So are three. If you wind up with more than that, make sure there's enough space for them to be active, lively and healthy. Cats that don't have room enough to play get very fat and sedentary.
Well I would think of it this way- I would rather have 10 cats than 10 kids, because that's just way too many kids too handle and cats are easier to take care of, really. In other words if I had to have a lot of either pets or kids, I'd choose pets. But I want to have 2 kids when I'm older, and I LOVE animals, so I'll always have a kitty or a little pup for them to have and take care of. Maybe even a lot of pets. It's complicated.
Yes, I totally agree with this concept. I have two spoiled cats, access to three others at my parents' place, and couldn't imagine being without any of them. They're cute, goofy, spoiled, and require far less time, attention, and resources than children. Cats (or other pets for that matter) are a source of unconditional love. The same can't necessarily be said for children.
i agree as a parent of a son i love deeply still so many outside influencesthere are more troubles for a parent you can be sued for everything they do. than there is all the girlfriend sorrows, all the not being picked for the sports team. the money all goes to them. even when grown he needs financial help.the animals need food shelter and vets on occassion, the children need nurture until they die it is very heartbreaking when you see them sad, whatever you can do you will do especially if you can love an animal i am sure you will worship your children. this is the whole problem

Most squirrel species are not endangered, and it is legal to keep them. They do not, however, make good pets. They need huge areas to excercise in or they develop behavioral disorders. They pee and poop on everything, can chew threw most materials, and can inflict severe bites. It doesn't matter how sweet and loving that little baby you've hand raised seems, he/she WILL change--have no doubt! Release humanely when the time is right.

depends on the persons like or dislikes. I personally think they are adorable. I like there tweeting or song whatever you may call there sounds.
This isn't really an answer since I don't live with a finch and have never owned one, but I do have two parrots and love them immensely. Being a companion to a bird is not for everyone, however, and the decision to befriend one should not be considered without much thought. I hope that you and your friend have many years together.
I had a few several years ago and they're great! Just a word of caution though, mine dropped dead after going just an hour without water when I got snowed in and couldn't get to them soon enough.
I rescued a pair and they are the most egg laying birds I've ever had but they make great pets.

They are messy little feather heads but what bird isn't.

I enjoy the little noises they make and watching them make their nest is a wonder. No, I don't let them hatch the eggs, I rotate new eggs with old ones. If they were to hatch, I'd have to get a bigger house for all the cages I'd have.

But they do make great pets.
I love Zebra finches, love their sound %26amp; song, not loud as many birds can be :)
They are lonely without a friend, you should get another one. The boys have the orange cheeks and the girls do not. Also the boys have spotted feathers below the wings and the girls are plain looking. They will make beautiful songs if you have two because they talk to each other alot. Nice and mellow pretty music.

They also lay eggs constantly. Get them a $3 finch nest at the store and give them lots of shredded toiler paper, or paper shredder strips or even nice java moss from Walmart. Sometimes i cut alot of green yarn in about 5 or 5 inch lengths. Put it in a 1/2 kleenex tissue box so they have a place to go harvest the nest materials. If you dont want babies (I raise them so I ALWAYS have eggs and baby finches in all stages of growth) then just take out the eggs when you see some. OR take the eggs out for a few hours so they will get cold and die, then put them back so they think the eggs are still good. That doesn't stop them from laying, it only slows them down a bit. Zebra finches breed like mice I like to describe it as. I give mine away to the schools, those elementry school kids always have a parent willing to donate a cage setup to the class and the kids LOVE seeing the tiny eggs in the nest.

They dont take much care except just making sure they always have warter and food, dont forget the gravel grit to help digest food. The box is little over just a dollar and they need it, I give it to mine in a seperate bowl and they love it. They also LOVE to bathe daily so getting a cheap $3 bird bath is a great idea, they will totaly use it every day. I have one on the floor of a cage and the others hang off the door entrence.

If the cage is big enough (they love to fly so a good big second hand store cage makes a huge difference)you can get branches from the trees outside. I use willow branches and get silk green plants like ivy from the second hand store for the decorations so it is like nature in the cage. If you scour the second hand stores and leave a special bird cage request in , you can get a huge cage for pennies on the dollar. I got another $80 cage for $15 and also a 4 foot tall dove aviary round cage that i painted white for $20, all for the finches!

Oh, when the babies get feathers and leave the nest they still beg for food from the parents and will have black beaks for at least a month. They turn orange later and the boys start getting their colorred feathers. The girls and boys both have the stripe on the side of the cheek.

I hope I gave you a good rundown on those cute birds. I have enjoyed my morning coffee time telling someone about how sweet and easy these finches are.

No you need The Sims 2 to play Sims Pets. So you will need to put the Sims 2 on the computer you wish to play the Sims 2 Pets on.

Like 20 jobs, three hasty marriages, 26 pets, and God knows how many times I have moved? I am in my first attempt at an honest relationship, and it is very good. We have actually dated for a year, and are not living together (amazing for a quick-draw like me). So why do I want to run? This is so different and very frightening. who knows, seems we have to label everything these days. Perhaps it's called living in the 21st century, when seems the whole world is in some sort of chaos. In all honesty sounds like bi-polar disorder, formerly known as manic depressive. Good question. There's probably no right to have a pet...but having one also helps out the animal who needs a home and can help the person who needs companionship. So you'd have to weigh those benefits with the costs of being responsible for an animal.

If the cost is low per animal, then 1-2 animals might be defensible; but yes, there's a moral and social problem if the person in need spends too much money on caring for animals.

Yes, they should. Firstly, pets have been proven to have a therapeutic value - they can keep people from becoming depressed, ease social anxiety, etc. That alone makes it worth it.

Secondly, people who get public assistance get a certain amount the government considers appropriate, and can spend this as it best suits their needs. It mostly just covers the bare necessities, but there's a little bit "extra" in there - because ONLY food and shelter will not really sustain a person, and it'd be very bad for their health if they could not do anything for their mind/soul. Some chose to spend this on going out occasionally, some buy a few nice pieces of new clothing, some buy some art supplies, some buy alcohol - and some use this money to support a pet. (It's really not that expensive, baring veterinary emergencies.)

Lastly, there are way to many homeless pets already. If those pets belonging to people on public assistance weren't owned by them, they'd most likely be in a shelter (thereby still being supported by public means), or they'd simply be put to sleep.
What about not creating a two tier society where some people have all the rights and others don't have any. If you fell on hard times, would you get rid of your cat or dog or beloved pet? Be creative about the problem. Maybe the body corporate could do something useful for a change and start up a pet club, or offer services for pets. Pets are known to make people happier. This could cut down the crime rate in multiple housing units.

If they can't afford to support themselves maybe you have to be creative about that too.

I'm going to answer this by posing a few questions of my own. Should people over 65 and people with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, quadra- or paraplegia, brain damage, nerve damage, seizure disorders, mental illness blindness, or severe chronic physical conditions limiting their ability to work, be forbidden to own an animal unless it is a service animal? Should people whose jobs have been exported to China or Mexico or whatever country is offering the lowest wage, be denied an animal? Should the woman and her kids who finally left her abusive husband not be allowed to keep the family pet?

My point is that people have low incomes for a variety of reasons--almost all of which are not because they are lazy. Accident, illness, abuse, age, job loss--all of these are conditions that lead to poverty. One in five Americans have a disability and unless you die first, you are going to get old. You may have diligently prepared for old age only to have your retirement snatched away by the bankruptcy of the company you work for as happened with Enron employees in my town. There is just no way of guaranteeing your future.

As to the second question. There are plenty of multi-family housing communities that are private housing that allow pets and it doesn't seem to be an issue. People have to be responsible pet owners, which is written into every rental contract so that if they aren't then there is recourse.

Yes we are. You don't want to get me started, I would talk till the cows come home, no I don't have any cows.

In the past I have had horses, pigs, chickens, a pet goat, many cats and a lot of dogs.

Right now it is three dogs. They are my brats, spoiled rotten. Even more then my grandson that I am raising.

The dogs are:

Bear, a Chihuahua/Terrier mix at 19 lbs, 9 years old. He is "Top Dog".

Snoopy, a Beagle at 39 lbs, not fat just big, 4 1/2 years. "Sad Sack" with the long droopy ears and big eyes.

Honey, an APBT at 55 lbs, 4 years. "Block Head" with the square head and jaw muscles. She is the sweetest dog I have ever had.

They have the run of the house and sleep with me, a "Three Dog Night", every night.

I could go on forever, but it is late and I'm sure the cows are home by now.

Corn snakes are great in that they stay small enough to eat mice their entire life. As young corn snakes, they will eat pinkies, and as adult, they will eat adult mice! They are "boring" if you want a pet that will cuddle. They are very fun to hold, and very fun to watch eat, if you are not bothered by the death of a cute furry mouse. :)

I am old, 46 and just beginning to have snakes. I have a corn snake and it's aw some.

It's cream and Orange to the factor of ewww snake isn't there because it's not traditional black, green etc. I hold it for about 20 minutes or so a time for exercises and to tame him/her down.

He's very active at night and climbs on the vines I have for him.

It eats one pinky mouse every 4-5 days.

just get a box separate from your tanks to feed it in so it won't strike at your hand in it's regular home.

They are not demanding but the above mentioned pinky, fresh water EVERY DAY as they drink allot and bathe...hiding places and remove their poop. Keep your hands washed before and after handling the snake and keep it warm.

I really enjoy the time with both my snakes. Makes me actually sit down...... Kind of Zen Like.....

I have 2 cats and a guinea pig and I have no idea how to take good pictures of them!! If I don't use flash the pictures are blury and look wierd and I don't have a tripod and If I use the flash it bounces right off the pets and then they are too bright with a real dark background!! Also my guinea pig and my 1 cat have white so when I take a pic of them the white is blown out!!

you can try taping a small piece of tissue paper to the flash to diffuse the light.

try using one piece and then two pieces of tissue till you get the right amount of light.

You're getting poor flash results because you're quite close to the subjects and the flash is overpowering.

See if you can adjust the flash output (User Manual).

There are also flash diffusers (google for them) which will help out.

The best thing to do is, if your camera has a hot-shoe on top, get yourself an external flash unit that lets you bounce light off ceilings and walls.

And you'd likely get blurry pix even with a tripod because the little critters are moving. So stick with flash.

Try sepia or black and white treatement. It might give something to your pets
yes the flash is overpowering. If there is a way to use the flash manually, you can diffuse the flash using something as simple as a white t-shirt over the flash. It has supprisingly good results, but i'm also using a nikon D80 so i have a lot of control over the exposure.

Yes anything longer confuses them.

In rescue it looks good if a new dog picks up on its name quick. Two syllable names with teh second syllable being a y or ie is the best. Often I change larger names around to get that 2 syllable eee sound. It sounds happy to them so they respond to me.

No I never do that. Always use single syllable names. Pets, that are able to be trained and accept commands from humans only understand sounds and by the way the sounds are modulated is in fact how your pet will react if trained to that sound...ie...whistle toots one two three toots and so on.. One word names and commands are best.
A very neat observation...... In my house dogs, piper, tucker,, Wiley, smokey, My big outside dog had a one syllable name, Beaux (pronounced Bo). My parrots Phoenix for my African Grey but a three syllable name for my Amazon Tequila..... thanks for pointing that out

I don't know. My dad named his dog "Matkatamiba" after his favorite branch of the Grand Canyon. The dog died shortly before my brother was born, so he named my brother after his beloved dog. I think Matkatamiba is a lovely name for a dog or for a little boy.

Basically, two syllables slide off the human tongue more readily than three. That's why an animal's name should not be something that is difficult to pronounce. The less mouth movement the better. "Slimy" can't be yelled out across a field as easily as "Sadie."

First you need to identify what kind of hamsters they are. The person giving you the hamsters may not even know so it's up to you! Visit the Pet Website (link below) to identify the species. There is also general information about the different species and care.

If they are Syrian hamsters, they MUST be separated. They will fight to the point of death if housed together. This is not something you want your daughters to witness. If they are dwarf hamster they can be housed together if they get along. Most do, but some don't.

I'd also suggest joining the MSN Group Hamsters Galore to get additional information from other hamster owners.

Get a nice cage, some bedding, a water bottle, a food dish, food, and some treats. I always put a toilet paper roll, and some ripped up paper towel for snuggling.

They are cute, but not very cuddly. They are nocturnal, so they become active at night. Plan on being lulled to sleep to the sound of their exercise wheel! Hopefully your daughters are old enough to change the bedding in the cage as needed, otherwise you're going to get stuck with it and it stinks! I had hamsters for many years during my childhood and early adolescents and I won't let my son have one! (He wants a snake instead!) No to that as well.

Hamsters can be great pets, but if anyone in your house has allergies, it may be a bad decision to bring them into your home. No matter how clean you keep the cage, they produce excessive dander that gets everywhere. It is not harmful, and I am not talking "germo-phobe" here, just that I found out the hard way. Only applies if the you or kids have asthma or other allergies, then I would seek advise of an allergist first.
If they are young, they may not like to be handled right away. Introduce them to the children slowly and don't let them play with the hamsters unsupervised.

Hamsters LOVE running in the plastic balls. It's fun to watch, too.

Clean the cage about once a week. Hint - the ball is a nice place to put them while cleaning.

Remember that hamsters are nocturnal, so they will most likely be asleep most of the day. They WILL play at night, so keeping them in a bedroom is not always the best idea.

Female hamsters kept together, especially in a small cage have a tendency to fight. It's usually harmless.

Protect them from cold and drafts.

Hamsters are escape artists. If they can get out, they will.

I do suggest getting them seperate cages if they start to fight or hog food. i've noticed that the female guinea pigs and hampsters do that quite a bit. they should be interesting for the kids to watch and learn about. They have been known to bite though if squeezed or treated inhumanely. Just be careful! Also dogs and cats might try and eat them if they get out or if the cage gets left open. might want to warn the kids about that. Good luck and have fun!
Hamsters make lovely pets - they are very sociable and like to be handled, in fact the more you handle them the more social they become. Not sure about keeping two though, I had two males once and they reached maturity and fought, sadly one of them died, so check that these two get on well together. Also be prepared to have to wake them up! They are nocturnal creatures and will eat and exercise at night - so to prevent sleep distrubance (by them scurrying around an exercise wheel all night!) make sure your girls play with them during the day. Be careful when waking them up - they may bite until they are used to being handled by you. They are friendly, fun animals, also be warned that, sadly, they only live for 2-3 years, so be prepared to explain this to your girls also. Fresh water daily, clean environment to store their food, so get the girls used to cleaning them out at least once a week - they can take turns, and one can entertain the creatures while the other cleans the cage. Good luck with your new family members! Oh and be careful letting them out for a run - they have been known to chew through power cables and furnishings!! So maybe build a secure run for them as allowing them to run free in a room could be hazardous for you and them!
Put them in a different room. They will run in the wheel all night.
THEY BITE WHEN PROVOKED! Have a wheel (I grease mine with peanut butter to prevent squeaking), non-cedar shavings, food where they can't pee in it, water bottle, and lots of tunnels. The best cages a durable plastic...wire cages get messy and chewed.
They tend to bite and they are noisy at night. Do not use cedar shavings as litter..it will kill them.
I love those little guys but be prepared. They are nocturnal and will make noise the whole night. Those little wheels can can never get enough oil. Also, they have kinda stinky pee and tend to go in the tubes they climb through. I bought a cage that was simple to clean after a month or so of work. To keep the smell down I was cleaning the cage at least every five days but with two you might be cleaning every couple days.

But they are so nice as pets , we spend hour楹搒 of fun with them , okay they do come out at night , but they don楹搕 make that much noise, after all they are only little . They like run around I suggest you buy a ball for them to run about , like that they get plenty exercise, they can also have a wheel inside there cage, they like fresh lettuce , apple %26amp; carotts cut them up small, along with there normal hamster food %26amp; water , also to keep there teeth nice and trim give them some small cut up apple branches, they have to be cleaned every 2 day楹搒 , we put cotton wool in there little bed楹搒 ,%26amp; you find they get a bit upset when you change it. but they get used to that %26amp; sawdust for the bottom tray put some news paper first then the sawdust on top %26amp; don楹搕 worry if you see them ripping it up they will add it to there bed楹搒 Oh yes, when feeding them at first best let them feed alone for the first few day楹搒 then you can feed them by hand . What breed are they? The large breed hamsters are OK for a while (like few months) to be kept together, but buy two cages to start with. The females are territorial and can fight to the death. We have 4 female Syrians (large breed) and none are in cages together. They'd kill each other if they were. Nor can we put the boys together and 4 are related (dad %26amp; 3 sons) they too will kill each other. There's also Dwarfs and usually the females can be housed together if their siblings or just raised in same cage, but be prepared in case they start to fight with an extra cage. Here's some items you'll need to start with 2 cages, litter-no pine or cedar, only use aspen or Carefresh. Both bought at WalMart. Baking soda for odor in cage and use for cleaning cage along with detergent. Get 2 water bottles and food dishs, 2 exercise wheels for the floor and a solid wheel if the cage has none or it's slatted or wire. Quality food, treats, chew sticks, salt/mineral block, and vitamins. Wet tail treatment (hope you never need it, but good to have). A cat brush or comb if long haired, and a book or good internet sites to refer with. A good site is listed below, I keep it in my favorites list. Check out their foods list for feeding fresh foods, it's great.

A lot of people that I know are very afraid of the Rottweiler, mostly through what they've heard from somebody's experience or simply because the dogs do exhibit aggressive behaviour to strangers around their territory or their family. Does anybody have personal bad experience with their pets or somebody else's pets and if so, would you mind filling me in please. My two dogs, Roxy and Shaka are really my best companions and are part of the family. I trust them absolutely.

I am currently a vet tech and if you were to ask me what I thought was the overall most aggressive breed our office saw would definitely be Rottweilers.

I like Rotts, do not get me wrong. But we have to sedate, muzzle or not get near more Rotts then any other breed.

2nd would be German Shepherds 3rd would be Dachshunds

The only bad experiences I've had with my Rotties was losing two of them suddenly. We had three at one time. One, our first, developed cancer and went within a week. Two months later, another one, our Rescue Rottie got a virus and was gone in less than two days. Still have one. They are the sweetest dogs ever. They all thre got along well and played together. They won over every single person they met.

My family has had three Rotties, two females (not at the same time) and a male. The worst experience we've had with them was losing the two females, one to a heart attack and one to cancer. Xena and Bailey (the females) were so sweet and gentle, although Bailey had issues with small, mannerless dogs, and Dozer (the male) is incredibly gentle with my 8 month old daughter, and in general a big baby. The only thing I don't trust him with is my food, lol.

If you were to get another horse possibly even a baby horse to watch grow, you would feel better and your horse would feel better too knowing that you are happy again...........
I think it is good to be attached to pets. When they die you just have to find a way to get over it maybe get a new horse. I had a guniea pig named Stu who died(we had to put him down)(he had a bad disease)and I was so sad(same with my other one Molly she had infections)but we got another one named Stutwo(Stu2). He is so cute! I think they go to heaven and watch over us because they love us and God loves us. PS: It is not a stupid question,its just a common problem! :-)

I am a Christian and so is my family, my sister says that animals don't go to heaven I don't know why but thats what she says. On the other hand I believe that they do go to heaven and watch over us just like the rest of our family does. I think that if your not attached to your pet that you weren't a good owner and they were probably miserable because they weren't getting the love and attention that they want and need. Any snake will strike if they feel threatened. A captive bred fox snake can make a great pet. Stay away from wild caught ones though as they are usually loaded with parasites and do not always adjust to captivity.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that yes your pet can board the plane with you and accompany you on your flight, however, I do believe that they are kept in a particular area of the plane that is meant especially for passengers pets. They can not actually be with you where you have to sit inside the plane. They are kept in a kennel the entire flight in an underneath compartment, (similar to your luggage), until you land and can retrieve them.

Be careful though because I've heard that some air-plane companies are not careful about keeping the proper temperature adjusted for the needs of your pets, and on occasion someone has had their pet die during a flight due to unsafe conditions. So, make sure you look into it before taking a pet along.

Depends on the airplane, the pilot, and the size of the pet. If the pets carrier fits under the seat they will usually let you bring it on as a carry on.
each airline has rules and regulations regarding pet travel. check with the airline you want to travel with and they will give you the information you need as to how to package your pet/s for travel. Allergies aren't usually a problem because usually pets aren't with passengers (seeing eye dogs would be different)
Oh it's perfectly all right. Your dog is required to wiegh less then 9 or 8 Kilos (The dog and bag included). You obivously need a certificate saying the dog is in good health, and if your dog is a puppy then you are not allowed to give it any medacine that will cause it to go to sleep for a while. But a good thing to give a dog is 'Rescue' this helps calm the dog down.

On the flight you MAY be able to travel with the dog on your lap, but I won't suggest it only because some hostess can get seriously pissed. (I have experince) As always, don't feed the dog anything within 24 hours before the flight. (You may feed he/her food during the flight, like bits of bread). Bring a small plastic container that can be easily filled with water, any hostess should be happy to do that for the dog.

My dog was to big to fly with me but it's actually more safe for them to go on a flight by themselves if they have to go below because then they go on a special cargo plane that it temperature controlled unlike a cargo compartment on a passenger plan

Yes, and No. This is dependent on the airline and their policies but most will allow small (under 10lbs) pets in approved carriers. This is not limited to normal cats and dogs either - but again, prior approval, vet health/vaccination certificates and a host of other requirements generally need to be met first.

Then there are assistance animals, such as seeing eye dogs. They absolutely would be in the cabin with their partner.

u have stairs in the original sims 2 base pack. pets doesn't come with new stairs. go to build mode in a lot and then go to stairs then choose the big stairs not the connecting stairs. Put them in a house by moving them until they fit somewhere and will fit if ufind a place where the stairs turn green not red.

I am just getting into the 8th month of my pregnancy and my husband and I are in the process of getting our apartment baby-ready. I've hired someone to steam clean all the carpets and I've been scrubbing everything within an inch of its life, but I have a growing concern over our pets. I have had a fully grown adult male green iguana for over 4 years now, and my husband has a hatchling iguana. We've built an enormous glass and wood enclosure for them, complete with palm trees, water misters and areas to climb. Obviously they wouldn't be near the baby and we wouldn't think of handling them while the baby is around, but I still just wonder if its better to just give them to someone else... The baby comes first and if there's any risk at all I won't take the chance, heartbreaking as it would be to part with them. Anyone have some advice? My research hasn't given me a clear answer at all.

I don't see why you would have to give them up. It sounds like you have a great environment for them, and your little one will be amazed with them. As for cleaning and scrubbing your apartment ... a house that is too clean can cause trouble down the road. Your little one needs to come into contact with all sort of "bad" things in order to build up immunities. Children that develop allergies usually do so because they have no contact with dust and allergens. Congrats on your baby and, please, don't give up on the other members of your family. My children were raised with numerous pets and they are all healthy and happy.

OMG there are so many things to consider when having a child... I fear you may regret getting rid of your pets. Like you said no one is going to handle them without washing hands so what could the problem be... You do want your child to be wise about pets and you know when they grow a bit they will visit pets when you are not there.. I really don't think you need to.

I understand the concern for your baby's health, but babies don't need a totally sterile environment. As the poster before me said, it's good for babies to come into contact with a bit of dirt and allergens. As long as you don't handle the pet and then your baby without hand-washing, I'm sure everything will be fine. My mom recently had twins and was worried about our cat, but everything has been perfectly fine. He wanders all over the house, and the twins haven't had any problems. Your pets are living in an enclosure, I'm assuming, so I really wouldn't worry about it.

EDIT: I've thought about it a little more and really.. what you're looking for is peace of mind here. There is always a small risk, and if you're not willing to have that in your head you should give the iguana a new home. Maybe someone you know will take him until the baby is older?

Don't get rid of your pets unless you think you will not be adequatly able to care for them for some reason. I never gave up my indoor cat when I was pregnant with my son even with all the talk with toxoplasmosis. Kids love animals and I think it would be a shame to get rid of your pets just because you're expanding your family. Congrats on the baby.
The only pet I really know that isn't good to have around during pregnancy and infancy is cats. But it's not that it's the actual cat that is a problem, its the litter box and waste of the cat that a pregnant women or infant shouldn't be around. I would try and google or research "Iguanas and infants/babies" or something along those lines. But I really have never heard of those pets being an issue. Good luck.
As I first began to read your question, I was preparing myself to answer "no, you're just going a little overboard as a first-time parent". I changed my mind when I read that you have iguanas. I love iguanas. I used to live in Venezuela and we had 5 living in our yard. However....

I'll just answer with a story from San Diego (where I grew up) that has always stuck with me.

A young couple with their first baby also had an iguana that they loved. They, too, were careful parents. The iguana had, unbeknownst to the parents, brushed against a pacifier or baby bottle when it got out of it's enclosure. The baby got salmonella from the contaminated item and died suddenly. The baby had only been sick for 2 days. I can't imagine how distraught the young parents must have been. They lost their baby over such an unavoidable accident and an animal that meant NOTHING to them in comparison to their baby.

That is reason enough for me to wait until we get a pet like that. I am all for animals - we have a small "zoo" here. I LOVE them but any animals that commonly carry salmonella are not allowed until the children are older. That includes turtles.

I know what it is like to loose a child. We lost our daughter by no fault of our own. That has been hard enough to deal with. I can't imagine trying to cope with her loss if it had been caused by something we did or could have prevented.

Note: Not that this question was about a cat but for anyone reading this and wondering....your vet can easily test your cat to see if it carries toxaplasmosis or not. It is a simple fecal test. So, no more worries or wondering (and no more excuses for getting out of cleaning the litter box - darn.) Just an fyi for all you expecting or future parents out there.

2.Depends on the dog, I mean what breed, You can make your animal fat or slim. There are more options to personalize your pet.

Absolutely safe...it's a major ingredient in most salad dressings, mayonaise, and also it's in ketchup. It's wonderful that something that is non-toxic can be used to wash window and also works great as a weed killer--full, undiluted strength for that job. Then you can mix it with some herbs and oil and make some dressing.

Um...people eat vinegar. Before it was a cleaning product, it was food. Considering the amount of vinegar I ate on fries as a child, I'm pretty sure it's harmless.
Vinegar is a very weak acid, so it will clean things, it is not harmful to people or animals.
apple cider viniger is, i spray it in my dogs ears and on their coat to get rid of the ticks and fleas. i also spray it on their food so that it comes out of their fur.

I am almost positively sure that vinegar is safe around kids. Pets, I'm not sure about. I've never really thought of using it around pets, so don't trust me on this, but I think it might be.

Well, I think that it is not odd to expect someone to teach their pets manners, but I also have dogs that really just lose their brains when people come over. I keep them separate from the people until they settle down.

My dogs love everyone who comes in the door and have to check them out, sometimes with alot more vigor than I like. So I'll usually put them in a room with a gate in the doorway.

But a relative came over recently and was talking about how much she dislikes dogs, and the hair, and the noise, etc. which was making my blood boil. Down came the gate. She left; don't let the door hit ya on the way out...
Actually, I've tried to teach my family members how to tell the dogs to get down. But they didn't want to listen to me and used a baby talk voice when ours were puppies and they'd pick them up and play and put them on their lap and carry them around. Even earlier this year, I tried to get them to tell them to stay down when they walked in, but they got the same little baby talk voice and attention. Now, when they walk in ... the dogs are just as pleased as punch to see them and I can't keep them down ... and I still try to tell my family, please tell them to get down and don't talk to them that way. It's just never ending. So, now, I put them in the other room since my family won't help me keep them down.

you can install them in any order, though the game will ask for the most recent disc to be able to play it. in your case it would run from the pets disc.

Seasons is better if you like weather. It adds all four seasons to your game, and it has 2 new themed object sets - country and tiki, and a special racing bedroom set already found at TheSims2.com is included in the game. There's a whole new neighborhood included to play too, called Riverblossom Hills, and there's 2 new default families. It also adds gardening and fishing as new gameplay and ways for your sims to spend time outdoors having fun. If you've always wanted your sims to be able to play in the snow and watch the rain, this is the one to get.

Pets is better if you love animals. It adds a whole bunch of different breeds of cats and dogs, and a few birds and womrats, and three furniture collections - atomic, space, and pets. But there's no new neighborhood (2 new families though). If you like pets and have always wanted your sims to be able to have furry companions, this is the way to go.

I encourage you to check out TheSims2.com for some more information on them. Overall, Seasons is my favorite out of the two.

my personal favorite is seasons. in this one there are the four seasons. also if you sim is good at gardening then they could turn into a plant sim that is where you have green skin nd you look all plant like. theres rain, lightning and snow in the winter. when you go out in the winter you put on a heavey coat. but in sims pets your sim can turn into a werwolf by being bitten by a wolf that they a friends with.

I would defnaly edvice you to get the Sims 2 Seasons. Not only does this give you a whole new range of furniture, but it also gives you four seasons, all 5 days long. You can get heatstrokes in the summer, freeze in the winter, which is very amusing.

You can also have a vegetable garden in which you can grow all kinds of fruits and vegetables.There are also three different kinds of fruit trees, Lemon, Orange and Apple and you can make drinks with these ingrediants.

Lastly you can go fishing and cook dishes with the fish you catch, which is a free wasy to keep your firde stocked well.

All and All, I think that Seasons is much better than Pets, even if Pets lets you Have pets.

Yes teen stuff is an ok add on with some stuff for your teens and loads of new decor espically wallpaper and flooring wise :) Seasons i'd get as there are plenty more things on there for you to do. Gardening is a personal favorite on there most definatly. And fishing - pets you just get, well pets and from personal useage i dont actually have pets in my household that much.

Personally, I love seasons. It's by far my favourite expansions as it adds an extra dimension to gameplay, and it's subtle. Also there's loads of new interiors and objects, which I love - as well as a load of new career paths. These make it really favourable to me!

I have only played Pets on the PS2 and I found it rather dull..although I'm not really too much into animals so maybe that's why! Also, Teen Style Stuff seems a bit pointless. I know all the stuff packs are really, as you can probably download most of it.. but I guess if you don't want to jeopardise your game breaking (happened to me) by downloads, then it's a good add-on

No drugs like that, but if you have any plumbing down there, you may have a dried out drain trap. Check them quick and run a lot of water down them, if so. This includes floor drains.

The first poster was correct. The bacteria responsible for strep throat is strictly a human pathogen. Just google "Zoonosis" for a large list of other organisms, including parasites that can be transmitted between humans and animals.

Here in the states it seems to be due to certain public figures that use dogs as an accessory that people feel they should be allowed anywhere.

I think it's because they're a bit more calmer than the females.
Because they don't lay eggs or are prone to egg laying problems, but the females do talk better in my own experience.

Either way, Keeping them single is the best policy and without mirrors, or happy huts or nest boxes. Spend a lot of time with them as you can.

Well people say that because females tend to be more aggressive than males.Also males tend to be the more vocal ones,males become bonded to you very easily .Females have mostly a monotonus pitch(only one kind of chirp) and males can make numerous numbers of noises.Either way you shouldnt be scared there is nothing to be scared of just provide her with a cuttlebone and she will not become egg bound.
Budgerigar males are amorous birds and it is the female who usually decides when she's had enough and sends the male away.

As pets, males are often the ones most likely to learn how to talk, although I have seen extremely good female speakers too.

If you've got a female, you really have nothing to worry about. If you already love her then it does not matter what gender she is or how many words or sounds she can mimic years down the road.

Because females are more confident, they tend to have less problems in new environments. A friend of mine takes his pet budgies to his work place sometimes because he works with children.

His female parakeet is definitely the favourite because she acts like she owns the place. She knows exactly where to fly to get the toys and she'll even fly to the table and try to snatch away things that (catch her eye) from the children.

Your bird will not turn into a monster overnight. That bird you have with you now, will always behave that way (even if it turns out to be a female, it's always been a female). Get what I mean?

Don't listen to anyone who says that! The girl parakeets are just as good as the males. From what I've seen from the male parakeets, however, is that they tend to be more hyper and energetic. They enjoy playing more. However, they are possessive; so keeping a bunch of male parakeets in a cage with one female is not a good idea. They also would attack other birds if they don't like sharing. Another thing people tend to like about the males is that they don't bite hard and are usually easier to teach how to speak.

The females on the other hand, have a hard bite. They like to play as well, but sometimes they get a bit too aggressive and could cause you to bleed if you get them angry. If they're laying an egg(having a mate or not), they would stay in the corner of the cage and be quite a bore! Female birds love playing with your hands, if tamed, but their hard bite is sometimes a turn off towards many owners. Unfortunately, snatching your hand away from a bird who's just playing could upset them.

Though I prefer the male birds due to them being more active, there's one thing about female parakeets that I like. They love to make noise with just about anything, and would often try to play a game with you. If you observe them closely, you'll notice that they're just as lovable as any male bird!

Just be wary: Female parakeets usually age/look older faster than the males! (particulary after nesting)

Bichon Frise are alergy free dogs you can also look into getting one of those creepy looking hairless cats. You basically want to find pets that are dander-free breeds.

Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too.

The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.

You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.

I saw this lady with a dog at Mc Donalds today. Nobody said anything, but i saw lots of people make faces.

I've seen people take dogs to the bank, home depot (not that bad, but still not allowed) and places where people eat.

I know some people think its ok to take small dogs places, but i would never presume its ok, small dogs or big.

Who agrees with me?

I've never seen a pet in any of those places. The only store I've ever seen someone take their dog (besides seeing eye dogs) is petsmart.

Where do you live? Wow, I'm in Vegas and that kind of behavior would NEVER fly here.

Here in the states it seems to be due to certain public figures that use dogs as an accessory that people feel they should be allowed anywhere.

Any where else, I don't think people should bring pets unless there isn't a rule against it. I hate hand sized dogs that people just treat as accessories and bring with them where ever they go.

And a little off topic but for people who go places and always bring their dog but leave them in the car or in the truck bed, it's just WRONG stop doing it!!!
