My little sister dosent take good care of her pets?????

My sister Hannah(8) has a gerbil(Rauntu) and a parakeet(Tula). I(14) have a gerbil(Gaylord Focker) and a parakeet(Amigo). She never cleans there cages and they go months without cleaning. She is getting better and feeds them almost every day or every other day. But she rarely gives them fresh water. I walked in the other day to check on them. They both had NO water and I first gave Tula fresh water. She quickly flew to it and took a huge sip. Then I gave Rauntu fresh water he was drinking it for like 5 minutes. I feel like they are my responsibility. I feel bad for them. My pets are extreamly happy and Amigo always bobs his head up and down and tweets. Gaylord is tame. Rauntu is terrified of people. How do I get my sister to take care of them herself??????? Shes so stubborn and dosent understand.

Hi :)

I'm only repeating what others have said really, but an 8 year old should not be solely responsible for an animal. Your parents should see that she's obviously too young to be able to care for the pets properly, and they should help her!

Maybe you could explain to your sister, it would be like her not being able to have a drink all day, or having to eat her left over breakfast from the day before. Tell her, it can't be very nice having to sleep on poop! (she wouldn't like it :p).

I hope you can talk your parents into letting you care for them. Good luck :)

Well, your parents are at fault here. ANY good parent knows that, really, ANY living creature in the house is their responsibility!! They have allowed too many pets in the house and they are not keeping track of them.

Your parents should not allow this. They are not toys, they are living creatures and need care. Your sister is too young to be responsible totally for living things.

They need to have a talk with her and have consequences for not taking care of them.
Wow!!!! That is really sad that your sister doesn't take care of her pets. Maybe, you can talk to her and try to get her to take care of them. Because if she doesn't they can get really unhealthy and maybe even die. =[[ Tell her that and maybe she will understand. Hope that works! Let me know what happens!
YOUR PARENTS ARE STUPID FOR GIVING HER PETS TO BEGIN WITH.

THE SMART THING.... THE RIGHT THING....

REMOVE ALL PETS FROM THE CARE OF YOUR SISTER.

THOSE WHO CAN'T TAKE CARE OF INNOCENT ANIMALS DON'T DESERVE ANYTHING.... PUT THEM IN PRISON FOR ALL I CARE.

YOUR SISTER IS WORTHLESS.
Im glad you at least have noticed all this going on and are taking it upon yourself to help out. Involve your parents in talking to your sister because pets are a HUGE responsibility and if its too much for her, your parents need to know so that the pets can be taken care of properly. If theyre not even being cleaned out, your sister shouldnt even have them because dirty cages builds ammonia which could result in death if the pets are inhaling it all day. She needs to understand this so do whatever you can to help her out. Good luck!
First off, let me commend you for your efforts. At 14 you understand that caring for pets is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. Hannah is still very young so try to be patient with her. Ask her how she will feel if her pets die because of neglect. She needs to understand that a pet can only provide us with joy if it is healthy and happy. Hannah also needs to realize that you have your own social life and will not always be there to provide pet care. Also make Hannah aware that parents dont often reward children who are irresponsible but they do reward children they can rely on.
Show her how important it is. Force her to do it because its her pet so she must take responsiblity for it.
