Today I was with some people dropping off feral cats that we caught at another shelter, and 2 women, mother and daughter, came in with 2 pomeranians. they were about to dump them in the hallway when I ran out and picked one up and I asked them "are you just dumping these dogs?" and they said yes like it was no big deal. I gave the dog back to the mom and the mom dropped the dog on the floor, the poor dog was terrified beyond belief. They were giving them up and when asked for a donation, the lady said she had no money. When she was getting her ID out we could see plenty of money. the lady was asked to pick up her dog (who wasn't on a leash) and the lady picked up the dog by it's paw.. not the ideal way to pick up a dog. So the 2 ladies left and the 2 dogs are sent to the back in a steel cage with no blankets or anything, in a very high kill shelter. My guess is since they are small they'd be adopted, but it just makes me so mad. not all people should own pets.

people are selfish. I had no idea my pups would cost so much or make me have such anxiety for their health, but I make it work and I would do anything for my adopted pups. I worry about them like they were really my children, and i ask lots of questions about them on here, and one woman really took me to the cleaners, yelling at me about not taking care of my dogs and I had no idea what she was talking about because I take the GREATEST care of my pets. I work at home and am CONSTANTLY with them (althogh they do get their freedom to run amuk outside and inside). I was really hurt because they are my life and just cause they get into stuff and I ask questions, doesn't mean I'm a bad mom. I can't stand to see anyone disrepecting or not taking care of their pets. I'm sorry you witnessed that tragedy, it's awful.

I think most people buy animals on impulse, and don't realize how much they can cost, and all the care involved-attention, playing, feeding, cleaning. It is sad that people just don't care. I probably would've smacked that lady upside the head lol.
you're right..i just hate stories like that....my dog best friend is so pampered....i don't understand people who don't like pets at all!! pets are little people....
I hate bad pet owners more than anything. People get them with out doing financial research, or research in general. People think it's a fix to a problem, to fill a void. ( when the void is their dang mental capacity!! ) I'm a shelter volunteer, and so many cats get dumped either because they are moving and just don't want to take the cat they've had for 10 years, or will just leave them in the house and move. Or they'll say screw you cat and just set'm outside to fend for themselves... like they'll know how. GRRRRRRR. People are so bland.

People like that just make me sick. It's because of irresponsible owners like that that the shelters are over crowded in the first place. I wish people would realize that when you choose to adopt an animal it's the same as adopting a child, you adopt them for the rest of their life - would you go and turn your child that you adopted back over to children services because you chose to move into a nice new condo that didn't allow children under 19? or because they turned out to be more work than you thought they'd be? I think people need to really think it through when they choose to bring a furry member into their family and not just buy the little guy on impulse because it looks so cute.
I wish one day that shelters will only be for those animals that are lost and are just there temporarily until their owners can be located so that they can come and pick them up, and that people will learn to be more responsible for the pets they choose to add to their families. Animals are not disposable!!
I've been keeping a dog that was kicked out of its house, for no reason but that the owner's crazy. Keeps buying puppies, lots of them, and even does a decent job training them, then sends them to shelters. He's a sweetie. I've had him all summer and had fun training him, but really needed my life back to normal, as my teaching job started again. I was just about to give up and see if a rescue group could take him as they have more resources/contacts, when the seemingly perfect family for him read my flyer and took him home! I hope it's as perfect as it sounds. I told them I'd take him back. He deserves a great life. There are way too many idiot people in the world.
