Pets jumping into crib and playpen?

The other night I found my 2 cats cuddled up together in the crib. At first I thought it was the cutest thing but now I am worried that they might try that once the baby comes. I try to remember to shut the door, but am not always succesful. Has this happened to anyone else or would like to share a pet and baby story?

I think a lot of people worry about this. But, cats are skitterish and babies wail. You will find the cats will mostly just run and hide and once they figure out that horrible noise comes from that little thing, they'll stay mostly far away from it.

I have had 3 family members have babies in the last year, all with cats, and the cats have all left the babies stuff alone, once it has arrived. I also run a day home, and I have 4 furry animals, and they avoid anything to do with the babies.

However, if you're really concerned, there are a few things you can do now before baby arrives, to deter the kitties. Placing a sheet of tinfoil in the bottom of the crib for a few days, or carboard with double sided tape on it.

There are a few products you can buy to put at the door as well, to deter them from even enterring the room, if you would prefer that.

I also have 2 cats and will be very careful that I keep the door shut so that they will not be able to get into the baby's room.

I always find my cat in the babys crib.

at first it was cute, but now it frustrates me. I dont like locking im out of the bedroom (which is where the crib is for now as were working on the nursery) but I dont want him to think its his bed either, because If I let him sleep in it until the baby comes, hes going to think the baby stole it from him and he will dislike my daughter, plus I dont want him in there shedding his fur, and geting his little paws all over it (cats do walk around in their litterbox..ew)

Im a vet tech, and know lots about cat germs..and it makes me a little sick having him around my babys stuff.

so now, as much as I hate it, I have to lock him out of my room, and thats the best advice I can give you too, close your door always!! you dont want yucky cat germs all over the babys things, and you dont want the cat to hate the baby for "stealing" his things either.

good luck :)
if you are worried there are tents that you can get made specifically for keeping cats out of the crib.
they say that cats will suck the breath from your baby because of the milk smell I would not let them in the room anymore because they are going to want to always go in there, good luck and congrats!!
you must stop cats getting in they mean no harm but if they Lay on your baby they could suffocate her if you forget to shut the door why not try some room sensors you can fit to the floor and if anything moves though the beam an alarm goes off OK it may wake the baby but its better than the cat doin something much worse
When I was pregnant with my daughter...my cat would get in her bassinet. I let it happen, no big deal to be honest. After my daughter was born...she stayed away for the most part.

Its hard to stop them but believe...once the baby is there, they will realize its not their bed and will not get into it...especially if the baby is there. And if they do, no biggie...just get them out. The baby will be fine...
