Do western fox snakes strike at humans and are they good pets?

on Wikipedia it says a western fox snakes is very dosile and will not strike a human even if cornered, which is why they would make a good pet snake. on another site it says if cornered the western fox snake will coil up and strike. which is it? and do they really make good pets?

Any snake will strike if they feel threatened. A captive bred fox snake can make a great pet. Stay away from wild caught ones though as they are usually loaded with parasites and do not always adjust to captivity.

I have had many Western fox snakes. Wild specimens are savage biters, and tend to do poorly in captivity. Captive bred specimens are better, but they're not as easygoing as corn snakes, if that's what you're looking for.

These snakes are as docile as any you might have as a pet, but there is always the chance any snake may strike, be it a captive bred snake or a wild one. There is NO difference in temperament between the two types, regardless what misinformed posters on this site may think. These are ALL wild animals, regardless of where they were actually born. The good news is that the bite is harmless %26amp; can cause no real damage to you if you treat the bite just as you would treat a brush burn or small abrasion.
